Rise Up Review

In all the distractions of the day, I failed to notice that one of my found poems was published in the election-day issue of Rise Up Review. Thanks, belatedly, to the RUR team.

The most important piece of paper

When my ballot arrived in Friday’s mail, I set aside everything else and carefully filled each of the little ovals with my fierce black ballpoint. Then, before I folded the ballot into the privacy sleeve and signed and sealed the envelope, I tore off the inexplicable little stub — a relic, supposedly, of ballot processing to assure the right candidates and measures get to the right address. Downtown, I dropped the sealed envelope into the big box, the stub on my desk a determined reminder of all the season’s hopes.

VOTE as if your life depends on it. It just might.
